UK Update: Construction News Awards Update

Richard Fielden, Mark Pickett, Gary Holmes and Neil Coulter attended the 20th Construction News Awards held at the Grosvenor Hotel on 14 July 2016 at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London.

WJ Groundwater was been named as a finalist in the category Specialist Contractor of the Year (turnover up to £100m). Unfortunately, they were beat to the top spot this year.

“The judges commended WJ Groundwater for holding their own in a category full of larger specialists, and despite coming home without a win this year, it was still a brilliant evening,” said Richard Fielden, Managing Director.

The evening was compered by the irreverent comedian Kevin Bridges to great effect. He found a lot to say about the dewatering industry and he really brought the house down.

Before the awards, all finalists had to attend face-to-face judging by some of the members of the 61-strong jury, made up of the most influential clients and experts in the UK.

This year the judging line-up includes tens of the country’s top clients, including:

* Ian Ballentine, executive procurement director, Heathrow Airport

* Munish Datta, head of plan A and FM, Marks and Spencer

* Louise Ellison, head of sustainability, Hammerson

* Simon Kirby, chief executive, HS2

* Flan McNamara, construction director, Sellar Property Group

* Jim O’Sullivan, chief executive, Highways England

The event has over 20 award categories with two new ones for 2016: Diversity Champion of the Year and Housebuilder of the Year.
