Spring has been another busy period for WJ Groundwater with new contract awards in every corner of the UK, with projects starting in Dover, Port Talbot, Houston in Ayrshire, the Isle of Skye and Woodsmith Mine in North Yorkshire.
WJ were appointed by the main contractors VolkerStevin to aid with the Dover Western Docks Revival Project in the historic coastal port of Dover, home of the historic White Cliffs.
WJ have significant experience of having undertaken dewatering projects within chalk, having installed previously installed successful schemes, including those in Brighton, Plumstead and previously in Dover. For this project it was necessary to undertake a pumping test, and then deepwell dewatering systems spread across two phases of construction works.

WJ were appointed by the main contractor Ian Thomas Construction to install a wellpoint dewatering system to lower groundwater level within variable sand deposits. The purpose of the dewatering system was to aid the construction of new school buildings and site drainage.
WJ have significant experience of working within this part of the country having completed projects at the nearby Baglan Super School and Baglan Energy Park in recent years, and are therefore accustomed to the ground conditions and what is required to help ensure the success of a project
WJ were appointed by the main contractor, Advance Construction Scotland to install a suction deepwell dewatering system to lower groundwater levels within silty sand and gravel deposits. The purpose of the dewatering system was to aid the construction of a new bridge over an existing burn at a new housing development in the town of Houston, approximately 10 miles west of Glasgow.
Kyleakin, Isle of Skye
WJ have paid their first visit to one of the Scottish islands, beginning work on a project on the Isle of Skye, near to the bridge to the Scottish mainland.
WJ were appointed by the main contractor, PJ Carey Ltd to install a deepwell dewatering system to lower ground levels with sand and gravel deposits. The purpose of the dewatering system was to aid the construction of a new fish food factory on the island.
Woodsmith Mine, located approximately 3 miles south of the historic town of Whitby, is part of a larger development by Sirius Minerals to exploit a large polyhalite deposit in North Yorkshire.
WJ were appointed directly by Sirius Minerals to install a deepwell dewatering system to lower the groundwater levels within the Millstone Grit formation to aid the construction of several new shafts as part of the mine development.
